Eclectic, Alabama — A Wonderful, Unique Town!
We’re honored to be the most trusted propane provider in Eclectic, AL. It is believed that Hernando de Soto’s 16th-century expedition passed near the land on which this town sits. The land became Creek territory in 1832, when tribal member Ho-Pic-You-Che received it through the Treaty of Cusseta. It was sold several times, eventually being divided into plots by William Gray for a settlement known as Pleasant Grove.
In 1877, a resident, M. L. Fielder, offered free one-acre lots to settlers willing to build homes or businesses. He also established a post office and renamed the growing community Eclectic, inspired by his training in eclectic medicine, which favored medicinal plants and herbs. Over time, the name replaced Pleasant Grove entirely, and the town was officially incorporated in 1907.
Eclectic continued to grow in the early 20th century and, in the 2020 census, had a population of 1,184. Every year, Eclectic hosts the Alabama Cotton Festival.
